John Cavanaugh
Chief Architect, Global Network Services - JPMorgan Chase


John is responsible for network architecture at JP Morgan Chase, accountable for data networking and unified voice communications across the global network of data centers, corporate offices and thousands of ATM machines and branch locations. Formerly, he was at Cisco, serving for 18 years, leaving as a Distinguished Engineer in the Advanced Services group.

At Cisco, he played an instrumental role in the network architecture of top-tier financial institutions worldwide. He implemented scores of projects for WAN, campus, branch and data centers – and was renowned for his expertise on high-availability designs.

He was awarded the highest level of accreditation within Cisco – the Cisco Certified Architect (CCAr) – and he holds US patents in routing scalability, QoS, and security. He was also the principal Cisco representative on the design of Internet2’s Abilene Network, and he worked extensively on high-performance networks within the research and education communities.

Cavanaugh holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Psychology and a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Computing Science from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
