Fred is currently a Principal member of technical staff at eBay, with primary focus on Security Architecture for eBay’s Data Center/Cloud and Perimeter Networks.
Prior to eBay, Fred was Chief Security Architect at Visa Inc., heading up the Security Architecture practice for Networks, Virtualization Infrastructure, and Private/Internal Cloud. At Visa, Fred was driving the Software-Defined Security and Next-Gen Data Center Security architecture programs which focused on threat-centric, software-driven, scale-out, boxless-focused, and distributed architectures for IaaS and PaaS deployments. In the past Fred led Enterprise Architecture strategic initiatives for Visa’s Network Blueprint, and he also led network engineering teams responsible for designing and implementing the world’s most secure and largest retail electronic payments transactions IP network: Visanet.
Fred has been a panelist of The OpenStack Summit on continuous end-to-end compliance monitoring using hardware-anchored root of trust and software based attestations. He is also an active member and contributor to ONUG (Open Networking User Group), where he co-chairs ONUG’s Software-Defined Security Services Working Group.
Fred holds a Bachelor Degree in Computer Science from the Universidade Catolica de Pernambuco – Brazil, in addition to an MBA degree from California State University, East Bay.
Fred holds the following industry certifications: CISSP, TOGAF-9, CISM, CISA, in addition to outdated Cisco network certifications.
Fred has experience in several industries: Fin-Tech, Internet, Telecom, Banking, IT consulting, and Utilities.
