Leaders of Industry and Academia Unite, Introducing a Unique Venue for Dialogue between Researchers and Practitioners
March 5, 2015 – Boston – The Open Networking User Group (ONUG), the leading user-driven community focused on expediting the delivery of open networking solutions, today announced a Call for Abstracts for its upcoming ONUG Research Track held in conjunction with the ONUG Spring Conference scheduled for May 13 and 14 at Columbia University’s Lerner Hall.
The chairmen of this year’s ONUG Research Track include Dr. Li Erran Li, Researcher at Bell Labs, Alcatel-Lucent and Adjunct Professor at Columbia University’s Computer Science Department, and Dr. Tim Nelson, Postdoctoral Research Associate at Brown University. Together with a Technical Program Committee made up of academic and IT business leaders, the chairmen will develop the research track with the goal of engaging the academic community to foster innovation and new thinking, and to set the stage for industry breakthroughs.
“Buyers in the marketplace have lost faith in the standards-making practice and the time is right for the academic community to get more involved with the process,” said Nick Lippis, Chairman and Co-Founder of ONUG. “ONUG is a user led initiative and we are thrilled to have Dr. Li Erran Li and Dr. Tim Nelson, true leaders in both education and industry, guiding this year’s Research Track.”
ONUG is an association of industry leaders dedicated to fostering open networking adoption in the wider community. The open networking movement promises to free network operators from vendor lock-in, proprietary hardware and software through a suite of technologies such as software-defined local and wide area networking, network services virtualization (NSV), white box underlays, virtualized network overlays, and programmable networks.
