Emerging Software-Defined WAN Leader Viptela to Showcase Real Deployments, New Features at ONUG 2014

Viptela in Multiple Sessions Highlighting the Need for SDN in the WAN

SAN JOSE, CA–(Marketwired – Oct 21, 2014) – Viptela, Inc., a software-centric networking company, today announced that it will showcase real customer deployments and new features at ONUG Fall 2014 in New York City, October 28-29, 2014.

“Our existing Fortune-500 customers are building on the agility of secure hybrid WANs and are now driving new capabilities such as Application Identification, Application-Aware Routing and Zero Touch Provisioning. Enterprises are seeing these as innovative ways to simplify operations while at the same time enabling full control of and visibility into the underlying network,” said Amir Khan, CEO of Viptela. “Most segments of the enterprise infrastructure have benefited from virtualization technology for cost reduction and increased agility, while the WAN has lagged behind. However, video and cloud application growth are exposing the pitfalls of an over-extended WAN.”

Viptela has distinguished itself as a major SDN player by announcing multiple Fortune-500 customers with production SD-WAN deployments built on the Viptela Secure Extensible Network (SEN). The company has eclipsed both incumbent WAN providers and other SD-WAN startups in comprehensively addressing the most important enterprise use-cases. The company’s momentum has continued to build since August 2014, when Viptela announced a multi-million dollar win with a Fortune-100 healthcare company and successful proof-of-concept trials with over 30 Fortune-500 companies in a variety of industries, including retail, finance and healthcare.

“IT business leaders are driving transformation of the network infrastructure through ONUG, and one of the biggest issues being addressed is WAN rigidity,” said Nick Lippis, the co-founder and vice chairman of ONUG. “We are pleased to see Viptela share production deployments that increase WAN agility and engage the ONUG community in discussions of open networking solutions.”

Participants at the ONUG luncheon series will discuss innovative means to tackle the critical problems facing the enterprise networking infrastructure, including issues such as improving the cost and agility of the WAN infrastructure, better SaaS performance, improved infrastructure to deliver video traffic, and requirements for improving and simplifying security on the WAN. Viptela, along with other industry leaders, will present specific use cases, built on SD-WAN technology, for achieving those goals.

SD-WAN: Voted ONUG’s Top Use Case for Software-Defined Networking
At ONUG Spring 2014, SD-WAN was voted by IT business leaders as the top use case most likely to be included in an RFI or RFQ in the next 12 months. The ONUG Board of Directors developed three new working groups, one being SD-WAN, for enterprises to take control of their network. As part of that group, Viptela is committed to focusing on crucial needs identified in the company’s discussions with customers and prospects.

Panels to Focus on Solving WAN Challenges
Viptela will participate in a SD-WAN panel as well as the customer luncheon series. There will be a comprehensive demonstration of the popular use cases at Fortune-100 companies. The detailed agenda can be found here http://www.onug.net/agenda.
